Conflagration はラテン語の conflagrare「burn up：燃え上がる」が語源です。
conflagrare は、con- + flagrare から成る語です。con- は com- と同語で、おそらくここでは、続く語を「強調」する役割として用いられるています。flagrare は「burn, blaze：燃える、glow：白熱する」の意味です。
