英語のステークホルダーって何？
最近よく使われてるけどどういう意味？
今日は「ステークホルダー」について解説します。

Stakeholder は stake「掛け金」+ holder「保有者」から成る語です。ここでいう「掛け金」は、もともとギャンブルや投資などで投じたお金のことで、成功すれば利益が得られる一方、失敗すれば損失してまうもので、そこから、「出資者、利害関係者」を指す言葉になりました。

最近では、ある事業において直接投資していない者でも、その成功によって利益がもたらさせたり、大きな影響を受けるものを指し「関係者」として使うこともあり、ビジネスの場面でもよく使われています。

ステークホルダーの由来には諸説はあり、stake に「杭」という意味があることが関係しているという説もあるようです。これは、アメリカ開拓時代、移住民が開拓地の周辺に杭を打ち、他者に対し「杭の保有者」であることを示したことから使われ始めたというものです。つまり「杭の保有」が次第に「利害関係の対象」になったことで、現代の用法に派生したのではないかということです。
